EG-13 Wind Loads: Introduction

Module 1 covers some of the theory behind wind engineering. Users will interact with graphics, animations, questions, and problems to explore laminar flow, Bernoulli’s equation, gradient velocity, and exposures as defined in ASCE 7-10. Then, these foundations are applied to wind patterns over buildings, pressures on buildings and roofs, and dynamic responses of structures due to wind.

EG-14 Wind Loads: 7-10 Standard Rationale

Module 2 covers various wind speed measures ( sustained speed, fastest mile, peak gust), converting wind speed from one measure to another, and the rationale behind the Design Wind Speed formulas in the ASCE 7-10 Standard. Users will interact with graphics, animations, questions, and problems as they calculate wind speeds, and learn how and why to use the parameters for design wind speed (e.g., topography, directionality, gust effect). Answers to some frequently asked questions about using the Standard are also included.

EG-15 Wind Loads: 7-10 Standard Application

Module 3 guides users through the full design wind speed analysis for a typical structure. Users will interact with graphics, questions, and problems to produce the complete wind-speed design. Two additional analyses include variations on the typical structure (e.g., when there is a speed-up effect). Answers to some frequently asked questions about using the Standard are also included.
